We are discussing with Shamma Al Amri to participate this year.

Everything You Can Think Of Is True

“Shamma often works with historical events or anecdotes in parallel with contemporary found image or video to create scientific like analytical accounts through systems of equivalencies often cultivating absurdity as a form of protest.”
Royal College of Arts.

The work of Shamma Al Amri stands out by integrating her fine art background with digital technology. Using a pinhole camera and traditional film, she distinctively developed her own style of photography. Her photographs reflect the transformation of tribal communities in remote villages into the metropolitan centers of modern-day UAE, as well as recording the changing landscape of her hometown Abu Dhabi.

She explores the inevitability of temporal and geographical change, shedding a light on how what we are living today is definitely the history of tomorrow. As we can see in the previous photo, Al Amri recasts Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, into an illustration of the past creating a loop of time trapped in the past, the present and the future.
