We hope that we can work this year again with the German artist Marek Radke.
Marek Radke’s artwork encompasses painting, sculptures, and installations. His esthetical research is dedicated to the interaction of space, shape and color. His UV-light-based installations are spatial compositions of serial objects seemingly freely floating in space.

His installations consist of a series of objects, spread in space, organized in grids. ” … the grid is an emblem of modernity by being just that: the form that is ubiquitous in the art of our century, while appearing nowhere, nowhere at all, in the art of the last one.”, stated art historian Rosalind Krauss in her essay on “Grids“, published in 1985. Radke explores the relationship of visible and invisible structures in the aesthetic, poetic, and philosophic perspective.
WORKING WITH LIGHT
“I made my first attempts to create light in painting in 1988 with fluorescent pigment colors. In 2000, however, I began to use “light” intensively in my art. At that time, I was interested in the contrast between the material of traditional and fluorescent colors. At first, I only used these effects in daylight. In 2006, I had an exhibition in Slupsk at the Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art which had no windows. This situation triggered the desire to create an installation in which all the elements only appear under UV light. When I saw what it did, I was so fascinated by the effect that in the following years I already painted mainly with fluorescent colours. Currently, I present the same compositions in daylight and/or UV light, depending on the local exhibition situation. Participation in festivals and international light art projects has led me to a new search. Being limited to about 20 kg of luggage provoked me to look for new solutions and materials.”, says Marek Radke.
